Race Recap: West Liberty Raceway (5/6)

This weekend we traveled to West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, IA, my favorite dirt track and came away with our first win of the 2023 season and first win in 12 years.

That’s right, it’s been 12 years since our last win. Finally, after all those years of work and dedication we got one. I can honestly say that I’m not a very emotional person, but getting handed the trophy on Saturday night it was hard not to get a bit emotional. Not everyone understands how much effort, money and time go into racing even for a small team like we have. There are so many moments when it would be easier to throw in the towel and give it up. But all this time we have kept at it and kept fighting for this sport for nights like these.

Here is how it went down:

We struggled in our heat race and after starting on the pole dropped back to 4th place. We weren’t able to gain any of that ground back and finished in a disappointing P.4.

That put us right behind the pole sitter, in P.3, starting the feature. Not a bad position by any means but still where we would need to get our elbows out in order to have a shot at the lead. Early on in the race the yellow flag came out caused by a car ahead of me. That put me in a great spot for the restart, front row outside. P.2.

Everything went pretty much as good as it could have after that point and following the restart we were able to pull away for the rest of the race and bring home P.1.

I cannot thank everyone involved in our program enough. Without the help of our sponsors and supporters we never would have made it this far. It’s been a really exciting season so far and last weekend really gave us the confidence boost we needed going into the rest of 2023.

This Friday night we get back to the action at Davenport Speedway!

- Sincerely, the TAR Family
