Race Recap: Davenport Speedway (4/21)

Racing season is off and running and man, it has been a crazy start to the year! Apologies for the lack of TAR Race-Monitor updates in the last couple of weeks. We have been chasing our tail pretty much since our last post from the test day at Davenport Speedway.

Since the start of the season we have raced on a few weekends including this past Friday night and every time we run I am more convinced that building this car over the off-season was the right choice. Learning to drive the IMCA stock car has been a pretty surprising challenge, but I am really happy to be competing in a class that brings real competitive drivers, gets to run at a bunch of different tracks in our region and even hosts some well-paying nights! Not to mention, the fans in this class of racing are unbelievable!

One thing that has been really cool is starting to hear my name tossed around locally again. It’s been a while since I’ve raced around my own home turf and the support this season from my community is nothing short of amazing.

But back to the recap! Our plan going into the weekend was to run at CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction, IA. The track ended up cancelling though, so we decided to head back over to Davenport Speedway in Davenport, IA, where we took the car for its first shake-down earlier in the year.

It was only our 5th race in this new car, but I am starting get my bearings in it and get comfortable. All night the track was hammer down fast, rough and very technical. It made for some really exciting action on track and quite the challenge in the car. Running the lip was the fastest line that night and we were able to make it work! For the feature event, we started outside the pole position and were able to hang on for our first podium of the season with a P3 finish!

Out of all the cars I’ve been fortunate enough to race over the last 13 years of big car racing this has been the most difficult to adapt to. We’re getting extremely close to pulling off a W and this last weekend we made huge strides in the right direction.

Thank you again to everyone for the support and encouragement as we figure this beast out!

- Sincerely, the TAR Family!
