Weekend Recap: 300 & West Liberty (5/19-20)
We had an absolutely packed weekend last weekend with a double-header going from 300 Raceway in Farley to West Liberty Raceway. It was a double-header combination that we have not run in a really long time. Boy, it just feels good to be in the heart of race season again and be competing every weekend.
On Friday night at 300 Raceway we had a pretty good race, although I could have gone to the top line a bit faster than I did in hindsight. We drew P8 for starting position in the feature, which had us starting the race fairly deep. We were racing hard right from the drop of the green flag but about three laps into the feature event I had to check up to make sure I didn’t get forced into the wall by a car coming and was hit from behind, which cut one of our rear tires down.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to change the tire mid-race and instead had to opt for a DNF. Definitely not the start to the weekend that we wanted, but it was time to set our sights on West Liberty for Saturday night.
Again we started the night was a wicked fast car and were able to finish our heat race in P2. With another bout of bad luck for our feature event redraw, we were set to start the main event in P8 for the second night in a row!
We battled hard right from the green and were able to take hold of P2 within just a couple of laps and gunning for the lead. A caution on the track stacked everyone back up again and we just barely fell short of our second win of the 2023 season.
Overall, really happy with our ability to bounce back on Saturday after DNF on Friday night. Most of all it just feels good to be in a car that is competitive night in and night out. Huge thanks to everyone who supports our racing program here and everyone who has been keeping up with our season so far.
We’re having a blast in the stock car and don’t have any plans on letting up!
